A way to get a content from the Player's Handbook if you own the physical version.

    Hi there!

    At this time, all purchases on D&D Beyond are for content on D&D Beyond only. Unfortunately, there is not a way to unlock the digital content if you have purchased the books. We realize and understand the concerns over re-purchasing content, but the material in D&D Beyond is in a different format and platform.

    Are you planning on also selling the books (with the digital purchase)? That way we could at least buy the digital content and get the book as well. I personally prefer to read the books but have the content available in my character sheet (and I don't think I'm the only one).

    Hi there! At this time we do not have any plans to sell the physical books on D&D Beyond. I will certainly file a feature request for this with the product manager. However, it is a bit more complicated since we do not own the content. We would need to work with WotC to figure something out on this.

    I'm Confused, why can Cursed not get in contact with Wizards of the Coast for people who already own the books?

    I’m so tired of seeing this question. Why is this so hard to understand? They license the content from WotC, but do all the work of digitizing the books. If they made it free just because you purchased the books from WotC, they would be doing this for free.

    "Digitizing" data that was already digital to begin with (i.e. when WOTC put together the books they were and are in a digital format, do you think they used glue and tape?) is in no way worth the prices being charged.  If there was a fair price being charged, say 10% of the book price or around 5$, then it would be worth it. You could have people tear out and send in the first page from the book (the one with the copy write info) to prove they purchased it, AND SELL ALL THE NEW BOOKS WITH A DIGITAL CODE.  The fact that they are STILL selling books that you would have to buy twice is absurd, even if they cannot fix the previously sold books.

    And btw, no one cares that you are tired of seeing the question.

    WOTC =/= D&D Beyond

    D&D = Curse Media

    What you bought at a store has no application to D&D Beyond, because D&D Beyond is a different seller of the content. Just like I couldn't go to one game store and demand another copy of the PHB, I cannot go to a new seller (D&D Beyond) and demand that they honour my purchase made with a different retailer.

    Every cd and vinyl record I buy comes with a code for downloadable digital versions. WOTC could easily accommodate this. I’m not suggesting it be free, because the DnD Beyond app should be paid for. But the content should not be paid for twice. You’re living in the past.

    With the CD's you pay for the digital content, usually the producer also is the one offering the online service, if not then you paid another company with it. The difference is that the licencing WoTC does would create an unfair market for other licencees. I agree that technically it would be possible, but they can't because that's how licensing works.

    First off, you can't compare this to buying music.  It is similar but different.  Perhaps look at it like places like drivethrurpg.  If you want a digital copy of the book it costs extra, but that is a simple pdf.  Here, you get access to SO much more than what a simple pdf can offer which is why it is even more expensive than what you might get through a place like drivethrurpg, but it is still far less than the cover price of a physical book.  You can buy a physical book off of amazon, brand new for about 50% cover price, give or take, and then you come over here and buy the same book for 50% of the cover price and you get both mediums for about the original retail price of the book having paid little to no extra PLUS you get a tremendous amount of added versatility.  Then you add on their regular sales and coupons you can find and you can get items on DDB for even less.  I waited for Black Friday and added on a coupon and I got the more expensive books for $15 each.  Quite a steal.

    People keep forgetting that Wizards and Curse are two completely different and seperate companies.  It would be like buying Frosted Flakes at an official "Kellogg's" store and then going to the local grocery store and demanding they give you milk for free.  If they go this route and give away their product for free, or even at a discounted price, just because you bought a similar product from someone else, it means they get significantly less money and then their product is not as good or improves at a MUCH slower rate.  They are not just giving you digital access to the information but character creation options, cross linking, and more.
