There are some related requests to this one and none of them get a response from the support team.
I listed the related requests in this post (so support might finally look into it):

I completely forgot about this post. Being a full stack dev, its infuriating that this still hasnt been fixed. Its really not that hard. Yo wizards... give me your source code and a weekend and ill get this implemented for you.

I ask about this issue frequently and never get a response. Even on the Discord server, the staff just ignores it.

If you could upvote the other posts, they might get a better idea of how bad this problem is.

I even got a strike on the Discord server for asking in two different channels.

I'm a software engineer and DM and it's frustrating. I even created an easy-to-use request here to make it easy for them to ingest it into the feature cycle. There is an API, why not just add Sockets to it?

My guess is money. Takes time for people to add sockets and then to create the architecture to relay the info from those sockets. I mean, using something super lightweight like flask/celery or django channels would be ideal, but you also then have the cost of running all those requests which needs cloud space. As long as people are still making a profit, and their bottom line is green.. why change? :(

There's plenty of features on the roadmap that won't work until they add sockets. Sockets also result in a lot fewer requests than a polling strategy.

The new framework they released the character sheet in is easy to integrate with Socket.io which takes care of almost everything and can be added to an existing Web-API based on polling very easily.
