Auto-Save for editors? Or maybe a friendly reminder and warning?
Yeaaaaah, I might've just lost 3 hours of making a homebrew subclass when my internet cut out for 2 sec.
As the title says, an autosave feature would be highly appreciated for stupid idiots like me. I saw that my Internet cut out and I frantically tried to save my 3 hours worth of changes to a new homebrew subclass I made. After half a second of loading, my brain caught up with what I just did: I just tried to load a new page with no internet. So as you would expect, it didn't save. I got left hanging with a white screen and an endless loading symbol. And when I went back to check if it did save, I saw that all the stuff I made was gone and only the template copy that got made at the very beginning remained.
The Problem:
So yeah, kind of a no brainer on my part, but I would like to use this opportunity to mention a severe Issue I have with dnd beyond: loss of progress. I mean honestly. The editor doesn't even warn you if you press any button that will literally undo all of the changes you made since the last time you saved. From pressing the "back" or the "reload" button on your browser (or simply pressing F5 on your keyboard), to even buttons on the site. Imagine accidentally hovering over the "collections" tab and then accidentally clicking on one of the banners only to lose all of your unsaved progress by internet speed, yikes.
Suggestions:
A Warning that pops up and warns you: "You may lose all of your unsaved progress on this page. Are you sure you want to continue?", would go a long way. For every Editor. OR at least give my stupid ass a small site popup or notification that tells me that it has been a while since I last saved my changes, every 10-15 min or so (customizable?). You can either click it or let it fade away, but it will pop up again a bit later than the first time maybe. Perhaps scale the time it takes to reappear depending on how often you clicked it away to prevent annoyance.
They would be very small QOL features, but I'm sure it would save a lot of nerves.
Even though the above is IMO an absolute must for every editor, my original suggestion is of course, as the title says: an autosave system. I'd rather have a 2 second bit of lag spike every 10-15 min in my editor, perhaps customizable somewhere if needed (maybe with a little countdown in the corner that pops up going 3...2...1...SAVING), than losing all of my progress after 40.
This might also fix the issue where the Homebrew editor severely slows down after a +2hours of use for god knows what reason.
So yeah, just at least one of these please thanks ^^.
