Unfortunately this isn't likely to change; the Exandria firearms do not use the same ammunition property as other weapons in D&D, just as they also do not use the same reload property found in the Dungeon Master's Guide firearms section.

They're also not really for use with other classes; they're intended for the Critical Role Gunslinger only. This class doesn't use the official firearms as these are not available in the System Reference Document (Basic Rules and Elemental Evil Player's Companion) so not eligible for publishing in third party content that's sold in books (which Gunslinger/Exandria firearms are).

If you're interested in homebrew rules for adding more firearm variety to the DMG firearms, then you might take a look at the Crafting & Upgrades section of my Gunfighter sub-class (basically Gunslinger using the official firearms). I'm 100% biased but I've been playing with them for a while and I like 'em. If they're too slow/expensive in your campaign then your DM can change the material/time costs.

I get what you are saying, and I do understand that there is a work around (homebrew).

I still believe it'd be an easy fix. Exandria firearms still use ammunition, it doesn't matter if the ammunition is different. All that would be needed to be done is add in the tag to the weapons and then it could be used with Repeating Shot.

All the tags are already programmed, it'd just take someone to add those tags to the existing weapons. Do they use ammunition? Yes. Add Tag and done.

Regardless, if D&D Beyond does it or not - is a different story, however, the least that I could do, is post it as a feature request. If they follow through (Because it would be an easy fix) then yay! If not, I shot my shot.

Spelling mistakes: I know the work around is to create a homebrew magical weapon, however, it would be cool* not to not have to do that, and just use the built-in Artificer system that's in place, because the weapon isn't actually a permanent magical weapon.
